What’s in a name?

Does it surprise you? As to how we have to live
With a few choices we haven’t really made.
We’ll have to bear it, all through our life.
For instance, I’d say, our very own name.

Some were passed down through ancestors,
With a Roman numerical accompanying them.
Or, suffixed with a Jr.,
As folks didn’t want to opt for another name.

A few were given a thought for days together.
While some were named in that spur of a moment.
Seldom did one get to choose their name.
Yet they always had an option to change.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
by any other name would smell as sweet." wrote Shakespeare.
Little did he know that someday, indispensable, he’d become.
And the world would look up to him and swear by his name.

It’s really strange how, not many realize,
Behind every name there’s a reason, there’s a purpose.
One day you’ll know it, until then you got to wait,
That’s when you’ll know your mission, and the destiny that awaits.

“Names, once they are in common use,
Quickly become mere sounds, their etymology being buried,
like so many of the earth's marvels,
beneath the dust of habit” - Salman Rushdie

This has to be the first time I have seen a quote in a scribble. But this is not the first "first" I am seeing here :)
I am also busy wondering about our pseudonyms. and the reason behind them
Anyway I am sure my given name sounds better than the one I have chosen for myself :)

happy to be the first to comment.Names...can we see a thing without a name.Name is like the marker we usually put in animals to track them..How will i remember me without a name..For me my name is insignificant.. so my name is an alien affair for myself..it is some other's problem.
Now words have become useless like parts of an overused machine. Are they hitting at the right spots...

u really think so...i beg to differ then..i dont think ur name would or ever could make up ur destiny...
ur purpose in life is much much more than just living upto ur name...
and do u mean to say teo ppl sharing the same name would perhaps be brought down to earth with the same purpose or reason to life??? :)

name is a habit
but name is also a legend only if u make urself one
and some our just namesakes..
most important is to do ur name proud by doing something revolutionary...make ur name a 'name to remember'

If I had a choice of giving someone a crown...you'd have it.
